WHAT DOES A LEAD TAX EXAMINING TECHNICIAN DO? As a Lead Tax Examining Technician, you will need to provide coaching and guidance for a team of tax examiners. Carry out a full range of administrative and technical assistance. This work involves a diversity of issues related to a wide range of tax processing regulatory requirements and procedures administered by the Internal Revenue Service. As a Lead, you will provide training, quality review and be an instructor or on-the-job instructor for the Automated Underreporter (AUR) program. You will lead and/or participate in team discussions, provide a positive environment and use sound judgment in resolving AUR and other related work issues. As a Lead Tax Examining Technician you will:
Distribute, balance, monitor AUR case work within the team. Work with the AUR Automated systems to assign work, manage individual inventories, select cases, view/revise correspondence, and report on workload in accordance with established workflow or job specialization. Assure equitable distribution among employees and timely accomplishment of assigned work load. Use the Overage Report Compiler and Sorter (ORCAs) system to monitor and control inventory. Amend or reject work not meeting established AUR program standards and refer to supervisor any problems on meeting performance standards. Resolve simple informal complaints, refer others to supervisor; report on performance, progress andtraining needs of employees and on disciplinary problems. Maintain current knowledge of open and closed AUR case procedures, policies and directives; answer questions; and provide both classroom and OJT instruction to employees. You must have one (1) year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
experience using the AUR Automated system to determine if the discrepant income or deduction(s) in question are satisfactorily identified on the tax return, working/adjusting individual and/or business accounts, applying tax laws, regulations, practices, tax forms, notices, bills, and other documents relative to this position. Experience identifying the nature and scope of problems or issues that occur during the AUR case processing; make appropriate adjustments to accounts, and advise the taxpayer of options available for meeting tax obligations. Experience with the AUR Automated system to identify errors in cases worked and explaining the corrections needed using ORCAs, on-line systems, research materials, technology and tools to resolve taxpayer's inquiries/issues. - The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis.- To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week, on your resume. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
