WHAT DOES A COMPUTER OPERATOR DO? As a Computer Operator you will be primarly responsible for operating and monitoring consoles and peripheral equipment on one or more large-scale computer systems. In this role, you will be involved in resolving a wide range of operating problems and error conditions. As a Computer Operator, you will work to identify and define the problem(s) and develop solutions while adapting to constant system changes, as well as, changes in deadlines and priorities. As a Computer Operator you will:
Activate, monitor, and control job distribution and resource allocation for processing requirements. Link internal operating systems and utility programs with application programs, peripheral equipment, teleprocessing and input/output channels. Monitor system's status and performance, observe and respond to system's messages, and define, isolate, and resolve equipment and operating failures and malfunctions. Run and monitor test programs to identify problems such as memory overload. Assist in developing new or revised operating procedures. Correct priorities and workflow by reconfiguring equipment. Process taxpayer correspondence using high speed printers and mail insert machines. You must have 1 year of general experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-03 grade level in the Federal service. General experience for this position includes:
Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular competencies needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. This may be paid or non-paid experience; OR You may substitute education for general experience as follows:
2 years of education above high school in any field of study (education may have been obtained in an accredited junior college, college, university, business, secretarial or technical school).GS-5 LEVEL:
You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Experience with operating functions primarily related to peripheral computer components such as mail machines and printers;recording control totals for on-line output reports; preparing problem logs; following processing schedule and alerting of missing output listings; filing on-line controls and responding to inquiries related to controls and control totals; OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows:
A Bachelor's degree or 4 years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited college or university.GS-6 LEVEL:
You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Experience with standard, optional, and precedent rules and procedures to isolate and resolve common equipment and operating problems on multiprocessingmultiprogramming computer systems; Using operating systems configurations and equipment characteristics, utility software, and job control languages to activate, control, detect errors, and malfunctions.GS-7 LEVEL:
You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Experience with standard, optional, and precedent rules and procedures to isolate and resolve common equipment and operating problems on multiprocessingmultiprogramming computer systems; Using operating systems configurations and equipment characteristics, utility software, and job control languages to activate, control, monitor and test processing of production workloads, detect errors, and malfunctions.For Grades 4/5:
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
