WHAT DOES A TAX EXAMINGING TECHNICIAN, (Complex Restricted Interest Examiner) DO? As a Tax Examining technician (Restricted/Complex Interest), you will be responsible for processing the simple and/or complex Restricted Interest cases, keeping abreast of various restricted interest laws and reviewing Form 2285 to ensure the general adjustments and carry back figures are correct. You will be performing and/or determining the accuracy of manual interest computations associated with quick assessments, manual refunds and NMF abatements, and computing interest (normal or restricted) on cases where the taxpayer is requesting a pay off on their account. You may perform the duties of the Lead Tax Examining Technician. As aTax Examiner Technician (Complex Restricted Interest Examiner) you will:
Resolve the most difficult, complex issues and problems for examination cases including regular examination, special interests, and special handling cases which involve restricted interest issues. Calculate restricted interest on the most complex cases involving finding that taxes, penalties, and consequently interest, are due. Analyze, review and research restricted interest case files to determine that documents are present, complete, and consistent with the return(s) and the examination report(s). Determine the applicability of the Internal Revenue Code and the impact of adjustments involving net operating loss carryback/carry-forward, unused or released investment credit, accumulated earnings tax, personal holding tax, claim of rights adjustments, installment aspects on estate tax case, combination restricted interest adjustments, employment taxes, and a variety of credits. Determine restricted interest rates to be used, limitations, coverage periods, allowances or over-assessments, interest computations, and restricted interest notices. Determines adjustments and other necessary actions to process through Master File and/or the service center accounting function. Keeps current with changes in the law and regulations relating to closure actions i.e., restricted interest, carryback allowances, recaptures, statute of limitations, etc Review the work of other restricted interest examiners to ensure that computations and proposed adjustments are adequately explained and sufficiently documents. Serve as a technical advisor to other functional offices, taxpayers and representatives on complex interest calculation matters. GS-9 LEVEL:
You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service. You MUST have all of the following specialized experience listed:
Experience calculating restricted interest on complex and highly sensitive cases involving those where taxes, penalties and interest are due or payable; and experience in using automated computation tools for the manual computation of interest. AND Experienced in transcript analysis, researching and identifying various types of tax returns, claims, problems (carry backs/carry forwards, net operating loss), and selecting necessary methods to resolve complex interest issues; AND Experience researching Internal Revenue Code, regulations, court decisions and/or ADP guidelines to protect statutes and resolve taxpayers accounts. - The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis.- To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week, on your resume.In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following, if applicable:
You must have been at the GS-08 level for 52 weeks (time-in-grade requirement).

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
