If selected into Recent Graduates Program , you will be placed in a position as a Tax Specialist, GS-0526, Career Ladder 7/9 in the Appeals Division.WHAT IS THE APPEALS DIVISION? Independent by statute, staffed by highly trained professionals who provide mediation for any taxpayer contesting IRS compliance actions. Appeals is the last opportunity for the IRS and a taxpayer to resolve disputes prior to litigation, and ensures that all taxpayers can receive an impartial review of their tax case. WHAT DOES A TAX SPECIALIST DO? Tax Specialists have the responsibility for administratively resolving tax issues that are generated and referred by various service centers, compliance and accounts management components. In this position, you may develop and arrive at a final settlement for specific issues, and actively participate in the development of team goals. The following are the duties of a Tax Specialist at the GS-9 level. You will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position. Review incoming cases for statutes, development of the issues, and completeness of supporting documents to resolve issues and close cases. Conduct legal research to determine and apply the law to the facts presented. Contact taxpayers, representatives and others to gather and analyze information, explain the government's position, pertinent statutes, judicial decisions and precedents, and explain proposed settlements. Advise taxpayers and their representatives of the correct treatment of taxable income and their reporting requirements for prospective application. Prepare audit statements, exhibits, schedules and other appropriate documents to reflect issue disposition and effect case closure. Determine balances due on account and explain payment options including installment agreements. Work with team members to identify and remove barriers and promote team concept through coaching and sharing best practices and institutional knowledge.WHERE CAN I FIND OUT MORE ABOUT OTHER IRS CAREERS? You must have, within the previous 2 years, completed all educational requirements for a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying institution; or intended graduation is no more than 9 months from date of application. You must also meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:
GS-7 LEVEL:
You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-5 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Substantive knowledge of business practices, basic accounting principles, and Federal tax laws and regulations; and that required the ability to audit tax records, analyze systems and bookkeeping, use fact finding techniques, and develop interpersonal skills. OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows:
One year of graduate education in a related field of study such as:
business administration, finance, accounting, auditing, taxation, law or other related fields. OR Superior Academic Achievement may be met by having a Bachelor's degree, with one of the following:
A GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale for all completed undergraduate courses or those completed in the last two years of study, or a GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale for all courses in your major field of study or those courses in your major completed in the last two years of study, or rank in the upper one third of your class in the college, university, or major subdivision, or membership in a national honor society recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies. OR Combination of qualifying graduate education and experience equal to that amount required. Veterans (as defined in 5 U.S.C. 2108) who, due to a military service obligation, were precluded from applying to a Recent Graduates Program during any portion of the 2 year eligibility period may have their eligibility period extended so that they receive the full 2 years of eligibility. The remaining 2-year eligibility period will begin upon his or her release or discharge from active duty. The veteran's eligibility period may not extend beyond 6 years from the date of completion of all requirements of an academic course of study. - The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis.- To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week, on your resume.In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following, if applicable:

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
