Job Description
Weber State University seeks applications for the position of Director of the Olene M. Walker Institute of Politics and Public Service. The position will be available July 1, 2017.
The Walker Institute, named for the distinguished late Governor of Utah, Olene M. Walker, is a non-partisan organization that informs, educates, and encourages active citizenship and develops leadership among students and the community in all aspects of public service on the local, state, and national levels.
The Director reports to the Dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. The Director of The Walker Institute is responsible for the development and implementation of The Walker Institute Program, supported by the Walker Institute Board of Directors and Student Board of Directors. The Director adheres to overall Weber State University and Walker Institutional goals while prioritizing program development, implementing program activities, supervising the internship program, assisting the Development Office in fundraising efforts, actively engaging community members in forums, debates, Politics and Pizza discussions, and serving as a liaison for Weber State University Faculty and The Walker Institute Board. The position is for a full-time Director (12 months per year).
Responsibilities include:
Internship Program
-Recruitment and placement of student interns with local, state, and Federal governmental offices.
-Supervision and mentoring of interns in the Walker Institute and in local and state offices, at the state legislature, and in Washington DC, where the Institute maintains an apartment for interns.
-Scholarship fundraising and stewardship.
Teaching
-Teaching one Political Science course per semester.
-Supervising academic internship credits and grading internship research papers.
Communication
-Monthly newspaper opinion editorials, annual and online newsletters, Web site maintenance, and public relations/marketing for events.
Public Programs
-Campus and community lectures, forums, and workshops, such as the Haven J. Barlow Fall and Spring Civic Leadership Forums.
Government Relations
-Coordinate with VP of University Advancement to support WSU Government Relations.
Fundraising
-Work with Development Office, Board members, and Dean to pursue development opportunities for the Walker Institute.
Budget
-Determine budget priorities and oversee annual budget with Walker Institute administrative assistant
Board of Directors
-Consult with the Board on strategy, programming, and direction of the Walker Institute.
Qualifications
Minimum
Qualifications:
Master's degree in Political Science or related field
3-5 years experience in related field
Seeking applicants with the following skills and abilities:
Excellent oral and written skills to interact effectively and professionally with faculty, staff, Board of Directors, students, media, and community. Proficient with computers and the electronic communication environment. Excellent organizational skills - good attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications include:
J.D. or Doctoral degree, fundraising experience; grant-writing experience, self-motivated - proven ability to work independently and lead a team.
Previous college/university teaching experience. Experience mentoring and overseeing research for students. Understanding of political policy and the practice of politics in Utah useful.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
