Bilingual Domestic Violence Victims Advocate

JOB TITLE: CLASSIFICATION:
DVVAC Bilingual SSW Full-time/Exempt
FUNCTION: Under the direct supervision of the DVVAC Manager, and the general guidance of the Executive Director, assess client needs relevant to agency services (Spanish and English Speaking). Establish a professional relationship and initiate services to meet client's needs. Provide services under parameters of the VAWA Grant and DHS Contract.
DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
1. Meet with shelter clients within 48 business hours of entering the shelter to review a risk of danger assessment, safety plan and self-sufficiency plan.
2. Meet weekly with shelter clients to review progress.
3. Educate and assist clients in the dynamics of abusive relationships.
4. Make appropriate referrals to other community agencies as needed.
5. Collaborate with Domestic Violence Victim Advocate Program (DVVAP) to educate victims on the legal aspects of domestic violence and provide court support when requested by clients.
6. Make appropriate referrals to DVVAP for assistance with protective orders and CVR applications.
7. Assist with the intake process of victims entering the shelter as needed. Assist with intake office responsibilities and cover in emergency situations.
8. Provide short-term crisis intervention, personal advocacy, information and referrals to walk-in victims of domestic violence.
9. Participate in rotating evening/weekend on-call duties.
10. Provide short-term crisis intervention, personal advocacy, information and referrals to Spanish-speaking victims of domestic violence from the community.
11. Facilitate weekly Spanish speaking domestic violence support groups, Spanish speaking parenting classes and English speaking domestic violence support groups to shelter residents, transitional housing residents, and community members.
12. Maintain accurate records on all clients and enter into client database.
13. Track services rendered according to VAWA and DHS standards and submit monthly report to DVVAC Manager by 5th working day of each month. Assist DVVAC Manager to compile both VAWA Quarterly Report and Annual Report.
14. Conduct community outreach and education to the Latino population.
15. Give educational domestic violence presentations to the general public.
16. Meet weekly with shelter staff in client staffing meeting to discuss client needs.
17. Attend DVVAC weekly meeting/training and monthly YCC all staff meeting.
18. Complete 24 hour domestic violence core training and 40 hour rape advocacy training.
19. Perform other duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor Degree in social work, social sciences or related field required. Social Service Worker License required. Prior experience working with individuals and families in crisis required. Must be able to read, write, and speak both Spanish and English. Must have the ability to assess the needs and provide supportive case management to victims and families dealing with family violence issues. Excellent organizational and computer skills desired as well as a good knowledge of community resources and services available.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
